Summer Goals

I’ve decided to take a brief hiatus from being a nose-to-the-grindstone student/employee, and have dropped my class for the spring term. I’ve made a comprehensive list of the things I intend to accomplish this summer. One of those things was figuring out my blog/portfolio situation.
Now that I’ve decided I want to do management, having a creative portfolio isn’t quite as important. Also, this blog is clearly for personal use and maybe shouldn’t be included in what I eventually will be using to showcase myself to future employers. Anyway, this summer I’m transitioning back to my old blog, and giving it a bit of a face lift. It’s going to take lots of time and will be changing constantly for the rest of the summer probably, but I’ve always enjoyed a good project. :) You can get to my old/new blog here. (Remember, it’s still very much in progress! Don’t judge too harshly!)
Happy summer, everybody!

Summer Sounds

For the past few summers, there has always been one song that came to define the summer for me… not so much because the lyrics of the song accurately described my experiences, but because it was played often on the radio as my friends drove around doing what we do and encapsulated the feeling of summer to me. I was thinking about this today and considering making a playlist that I’ll blast once I’m finally cruising in my (hypothetical) convertible and I got so excited I decided to post it here.

Summer 2009: Love Drunk

Summer 2010: Magic

Summer 2011: Tonight, Tonight

And I can’t be totally sure but I have a feeling the song of Summer 2012 will be Everybody Talks by Neon Trees.

Avengers Assemble!

Last night I got to see the midnight premier of the best superhero with the best friends. And an anonymous talented Iron Man artist.

I must say, I loved it. The day of the premier I got incredibly excited and gathered all my Iron Man merchandise… my backpack, my cup, my boxer shorts… went out and bought an Iron Man mask.

I admit, I went to the movie for Iron Man because I have developed quite an obsession over the years. I was ecstatic to also receive an Iron Man poster and Iron Man 3D glasses for free at the theater while we waited. But then we saw the film… and I loved everything about it. Go see it! Right away!

Update on Changes

A while back I mentioned that there were some big changes coming for me… and today I’m going to disclose some of those changes! Specifically, today you get to learn about my new jobs!

Originally my plan for the summer was to go laze around a lake all summer and work in a boat shop. A series of events, however, led me to landing an internship with Real Salt Lake at the last minute, which I decided to take.

In my internship, I work with the premium services department, specifically with the suites. What I do has very, very, VERY little to do with my intended career path, but I knew that going in and have grown to rather enjoy the long Saturdays at the RioT… in spite of the fact I get paid zero dollars.

The more exciting news, however, is that I’ve accepted a new job! This one has very, very, VERY much to do with my intended career path, so I’m very excited. I am working as a project manager for a marketing team in the BYU College of Physical and Mathematical sciences. I started the job this past Monday and although I’m a bit overwhelmed and still don’t know exactly what I’m doing, I’m so excited for the opportunity. I even have my own business cards!

(I had to type my own name onto the preprinted business card with a typewriter hahaha but to be honest I still feel rather legit and honored.)

The only bummer about this is that it means at the end of the summer, I will be saying sayonara to the LAO and my current job. It’s tough because I feel like I’ve really found my niche in that office and it’s going to be tough to leave.

Although everyone in this photo besides myself and Chris have transitioned to from the LAO and the atmosphere with the new staff isn’t quite as fantastic (although they’re great, I probably won’t be going to Seven Peaks with any of my current co-workers) I still feel like leaving the LAO is going to leave a void. I’m truly sad about it.

Until I look at my business cards and then I just get all giddy again.

Just discovered this gem from last year’s Christmas party at work. Please remind me of this if I am ever tempted to dye my hair dark again… bleached hair, you are not missed.

Lots of changes are coming for Jeanette. Some are good, some are bad, some are exciting, some are scary. Details forthcoming.

1. I love Remember the Titans. Love love love it. One of my top three favorites.
2. I get chills at the part at the end of camp when they all get together in a circle and Gary and Julius lead them in a team grunt fest.
3. During the games the movie has shots of the desegregated cheerleaders and drill team. I always wonder if they had similar experiences at their prospective cheer and drill camps.

Ginger Za-Zamora

My freshman year of college, (aka last year) I was assigned a roommate. Well, actually two roommates. There was also Jezelle, but that’s a whoooollle other blog post. No, I’m talking about Ginger Zamora.

There is literally no person in the world like Ginger. She is unique. When we met I thought she was crazy… and she told me this was the year she was going to go “edgy”. That word came to define that first year of college for me.

Anyway, Ginger and I are no longer roommates. We don’t even see each other all that often (although that will change this spring term!). However, in spite of that, I can read Ginger like an open book. I can always tell what she is thinking and when she is lying and when she’s about to say “I love prom soooooooo much!”

She tries to do it to me but just can’t.

Not Only is Jeanette a Terrible Person, She is An Awkward Person: Part I

Tonight is our ward social. Tonight is also the last day of classes and the beginning of finals week, so naturally I am going to nap/start studying and not go to my ward social because I am anti-social, in more meaning than one. (ha that worked out more nicely even than I anticipated.)

Unfortunately, what was originally going to be FHE on Monday, our Ward Oscars, for which each FHE group made a movie, is instead occuring tonight, which meant I had to bring the file on a DVD to the ward social. At about 6:25 (started at 6:30) I rolled off my bed where I had been semi-napping and sulking about impending life. In my sulkish mood, I didn’t feel much like putting on a shirt, so I instead put my INTERN-ISSUE Real Salt Lake windbreaker on over the Down East camisol I was wearing and called it good. After all, it was looking quite gloomy outside and it’s not like anyone would know I wasn’t wearing a shirt.

So I walk to the park, where three people have arrived so far: one member of the bishopric, one former member of the Relief Society presidency, and one of the approximately 4 boys in the ward who know my name. I handed over my DVD, gave my apologies, and turned to leave, when the boy jokingly said, “you can only leave if you give me your jacket.”

Me being the awkward person that I am, “well that might pose a problem because I’m not wearing a shirt.”

As I was walking back from the park several awkward, silent moments later, it started to rain. Is it sacrilegious to believe that it was because heaven was crying?
